Encyclopedia Scupltures by Guy Laramee (j)  Artist Guy Laramee has carved books into impressive landscapes for two series entitled The Great Wall and Biblios, excavating dense pages of old books that are slowly falling apart, such as old encyclopedias and dictionaries, to reveal romantic mountains and structures.  Laramee’s carved books are his metaphor for the degradation of human culture.

Now books really do look interesting, don't they? Artist Guy Laramee created these amazing book landscapes by carving old books, dictionaries and encyclopedias.

Using knives, tweezers and surgical tools, Brian Dettmer carves one page at a time. Nothing inside the out-of-date encyclopedias, medical journals, illustration books, or dictionaries is relocated or implanted, only removed. Dettmer manipulates the pages and spines to form the shape of his sculptures. He also folds, bends, rolls, and stacks multiple books to create completely original sculptural forms.
