Ivory cane handle modelled as a naturalistic stump with two standing mice forming the terminal.

A marvelous ivory cane of a lion and snake. It depicts in marvelous detail, a male lion sitting atop a foliage-laden tree stump confronting a vicious, open-mouthed snake. There is a smooth cartouche where a name or initials could have been inscribed, as well as a 7/8" smooth silver collar. It is perhaps English, ca 1865, and it may be allegorical with the lion representing the British Empire and the snake representing her foes.
