Araminta accompanies Thelma to her doctor appointment and SURPRISE! the consultant is none other than the annoying Crispin van Sibbelt. Dr. van Sibbelt insists on taking Araminta to eat lunch while she waits for Thelma to receive a transfusion. He takes her to a small coffee shop, then twits her because she expected "red plush." Hey, at least it was a real coffee shop, not the "modern" version of a Dutch coffeeshop.
"Araminta had supposed that supper would be a simple meal of soup and perhaps an omelette, but she couldn’t have been more mistaken. There was soup, certainly—french onion soup, served in brown earthenware pipkins, and lavishly sprinkled with cheese, but that was followed by poached turbot and lobster sauce, accompanied by a salad. There was a Charlotte Russe to follow these dainties, and all of them helped along nicely by the hock which the doctor poured for them both,"
After a tough day in the Accident Room (nearby bomb exploded), Araminta is planning "supper round the fire - a bath first, perhaps, so that she could tumble into bed..." when Crispin shows up as she's leaving the hospital. "I'm far too tired to entertain anyone - even if I had wanted to do so, and I don't." But he had popped into Harrods and brought supper to her; he heated up the food while she took a bath.

I have a little dog who likes to nap with me. He climbs on my body and puts his face in my neck. He is sweeter than soap. He is more wonderful than a diamond necklace which cant even bark. - Mary Oliver -photo credit to the owner
