Alla föremål i Nordiska museets samlingar har ett katalogkort som beskriver dem. Innan färgfotot kom tecknades föremålen ofta av och några är extra påkostade och målade med akvarellfärg. Den som målade var Emelie von Walterstorff, amanuens och textilexpert vid museet mellan 1903 och 1933. Emelie målade av ett stort antal folkkonstföremål i akvarell - bland annat av folkdräktsplagg.
