This is another example of exploring math through loose parts; but in contrast to the other one, this one uses materials with very similar shapes, sizes, and textures and only varying in regards to colours.

Playing with a variety of coloured stones in many sizes is a great open-ended activity. When a white sheet is laid over table it provides a complementary contrast for the children to really see their work.

Stones patterns, take pictures of the patterns children make and display them as inspiration for future patterns as well as providing the kids a chance to celebrate their art and reflect on their creative experiences
