Island Hopping in Stavanger - A Day Trip to Langøy — Nordic Wanders

Even after 3 years of living in the city, I’m still in love with how varied the landscape is in and surrounding Stavanger, and how many hidden gems I still stumble upon even after all this time. One of these gems was the small island of Langøy in the city fjord of Stavanger. While I’ve previously only visited Lindøy - where everyone else flicks on a warm and sunny day - I’m glad I’ve made the decision to head to nearby Langøy instead. Here’s why:

Dalsnuten, Stavanger, Hiking Guide - All you need to know — Nordic Wanders

Ever since moving to Stavanger, Easter has always been a time for me to explore more of the local surroundings of my new adoptive home. 2 years ago, I went on a road trip to explore everything the beautiful Jæren coastline has to offer and last year, I went on a hike to Månafossen and Trollpikken, and explored Gloppedalsura for the first time without a busload full of cruise guests at my heel. And while I spent the actual Easter holidays this year sick in bed with what we can all just…

Nuuk - The Capital of Greenland // A Photo Essay — Nordic Wanders

Does that sound cosmopolitan? It is! Nuuk is way more than just a small city in the middle of the Arctic! I absolutely fell in love with Nuuk, simply because it offers you the "typical Arctic experience" and all the advantages of a city - just like Tromso or Reykjavik, but better as you're within nature in just 5 mins!

Tromso on a Budget - 14 Free Things to do & see in the Paris of the North — Nordic Wanders

The Arctic is a fascinating place and Tromso is a great starting point to explore it. It's relatively easy to get to and combines nature with city life. But is it possible to visit Tromso on a budget?

The ultimate road trip in Southern Scandinavia — Nordic Wanders

The term roadtrip doesn't exactly apply, I have to admit, but it sounds better than weird journey via plane, bus and train. Anyways, today I want to present you my itinerary and a couple of shots that hopefully make you want to read more about this trip!

Hidden Gems in the Lofoten Islands // Part 1: Henningsvær — Nordic Wanders

Henningsvær is a small village off the island of Austvågøy in the Lofoten Islands with a population of only about 450 people. Henningsvær itself is situated on many smaller islands which makes it an interesting destination for tourists as the islands are all connected by little bridges, reminding many people of Venice.

Not long ago, the Norwegian airline Wideroe announced a new direct connection from Tromsø and Oslo to the Lofoten Islands, starting in spring 2017. This is good news not only for tourists but also for those like me who live up north. You see, Northern Norway is an incredibly big area. The region consists of three counties: Nordland, Troms and Finnmark.

Visit Stockholm in Winter - What to Do and See — Nordic Wanders

Now winter isn't the most popular time to travel and even less so when the destination in question only has 6 hours of daylight in December and an average temperature of -3 degrees Celsius in February. Of course, Stockholm is an absolute beauty when the sun shines and you can work on your tan at Lake Mälaren. However winter is a pretty special time to visit Sweden too so here's a quick guide on what there is to see and do if you visit Stockholm in winter.

Camping in polar bear territory? - Where to stay in Svalbard — Nordic Wanders

With only a dozen hotels to choose from, accommodation options on Svalbard are pretty limited - and certainly not for those travelling on a tiny budget. I was surprised to find hostel prices in Longyearbyen at the same rate as you'd get a stay in a decent Scandic Hotel on the mainland of Norway. Nevertheless, the accommodation costs are totally worth to experience Svalbard up close and while it might not be entirely possible to visit Svalbard on a backpacker's or student budget, it…

24 Hours in Reykjavik // A Stopover in Iceland — Nordic Wanders

Once in Iceland however, things became a bit less awesome. On the bus from Keflavik to Reykjavik, I managed to take exactly 10 pictures (from beautiful flowers and geysers in the distance though) before falling asleep - hello jetlag! Nonetheless I had planned to see everything Reykjavik has to offer so no rest for me. Big mistake!
