This is a Hala tree, otherwise known as Screw Pine or Tourist Pineapple because unfamiliar tourists think the fruit is a pineapple. Dry land Taro "Kalo" lehua which is a root grown like a potato is used to make a purple paste called Poi. Also the Hawaiians use the top green leaves "Luau leaves" to make a main dish called the LauLau made with pork, butterfish and sometimes with sweet potato. The Luau leaves are used to wrap the raw pork, butterfish,sweet potato and then wraped with a Ti leaf. Then the laulau steamed and cooked for several hours until ready. This is sweetness!!!
