Parklet made out of a van in San Francisco

One idea that has spread around the globe is PARK(ing) Day, an annual event in September in which curb parking spaces are transformed into people places for a day. It all started in San Francisco in 2005, when a design firm called Rebar turned a single on-street parking space into a temporary public park with sod, a bench, and a tree. In 2011, the event grew to nearly 1,000 PARK(ing) Day parks in 162 cities worldwide. Parklet-Mission-District-San-Francisco

Open space is cities is often limited, making parks and places to relax and socialize precious. In light of this, Montreal has turned shipping containers into parklets equipped with planters, seating and local art. Recycling materials makes #LQC easy! #Placemaking #StreetsAsPlaces
