Make an Invisible binding
I was writing this blog post on Monday afternoon, but then life came in the way. One of my family members broke an arm, and I have been spending lots of time with her at the hospital. We have had so much fun despite pain and nausea and deadly weapon hardware sticking out of her arm, but now she’s back home and I am quite happy to be out of those hospital corridors. Anyways, here’s Monday’s post - a little late. Our house is quite silent today after a whirlwind weekend with the grandboys…
Lek med garn class at Sandnes Husflidslag
Even a dedicated quilter on the move needs time off from the joy(?!) of creating a new studio space. This week I got two nights off, which was very much needed I’d say. On Tuesday I went back to the ladies at Sandnes Husflidslag (previous post here) to teach another class – Playing with yarn. This is also a Layer upon layer class, and you all know how much I love those. Fortunately I have packed everything I needed for the class a few weeks ago or they might have been lost in the black hole…
Make an Invisible binding
This is the second of the new samples which I made for the Layer upon layer Movement class. This quilt has less contrast between the background and the “paint”. The warmth draws me in and makes me want to surround myself with lots of warm colours. One of the things that I particularly like about the Movement quilts is that the overall look can easily be adjusted to the students’ colour preferences. The warm colour kit can for instance easily be made more hot pink or warm orange. I don’t…

The not so secret life of a quilter
Make an Invisible binding
A new sample for the Lag på lag Kvist (Layer upon layer Branch) class which I will be teaching at the Annual meeting of the Norwegian Quilters’ Association in March. Being a diehard fan of fall colours, I have no idea why it has taken me so long to make a fall variation, but anyway, now it’s here. I’m thinking of making it into a small cushion. My friend Laila made one with hers, and it’s awesome. If you would like to take this class and are a member of the NQF , the registration will open…

Green & Glittery class at Rogaland Quiltelag
Another week has passed, and we are one week closer to finishing the house. Just a few more crazy weeks to go where everything hopefully will come together. Maybe the house will even have the proper coloured cladding; we’ll see. The grandboys have been spending the weekend with us, giving us a much needed break from everything. We spent a few hours Christmas gift shopping on Saturday which was brilliant. After one ice cream break and lunch at McD, we could cross quite a few gifts off the…

"Grønt & Glitrende"
The latest addition to the layer upon layer classes is “Green & Glittery”. Clean lines, lots of different materials, a little bling, lots of stitching. While the shapes are techniques are simple enough, they do take quite a few hours of happy creating before everything magically falls into place. These pillows are not for afternoon naps and sticky fingers. I have used some old fabrics for the back sides which by the way, both have zipper closures. The turquoise pillow cover (no pillow forms…
Alpha & beta testing Dark sides
I have finished alpha & beta testing the Dark side class. It is very different from all my other classes, so I needed some extra quality control. Teaching the same technique to several diverse groups of quilters is the best way to do this and I have learned a lot on the way. Fortunately the students also enjoyed the class very much. The third class was only one student and even though she missed out on the positive effects of being in a group, she had the benefit of my full attention. I…
