Another view from my walk around the Paulus Hook neighborhood in 1981. The Colgate plant dominated the Hudson River shoreline for decades, but by this time was getting close to the end of its life. (I've heard that many people in Lower Manhattan used to set their watches to this clock). Now a world of expensive high-rise apartments and the Goldman-Sachs tower by the Hudson River, this view from 1981 captures a time and place long gone. .
