The Haiden building, seen from the entrance bridge, of Ujigami-jinja (宇治上神社) in Uji City! Notice the Tatesuna (立砂) in front of the Haiden. Tatesuna (立砂) are a pair of standing cones of sand in front of Haiden. Shop for buying souvenirs and talismans: You can buy omikuji, which are little papers on which your fortune is written. The omikuji at Uji Kami Jinja are adorned with rabbits. At present the kanji for Uji is 宇治,but at one time the kanji was兎道, which meant ‘rabbit road’. For this reason, both the omikuji and the talismans have something to do with rabbits.
Kirihara-sui: Next to the Haiden, there is spring water.The spring water at Uji Kami Jinja is called Kirihara Sui. In the Muromachi era, it was one of the top seven sources of water for Uji-Tea, for which the city of Uji is famous. In fact, it is the last remaining source, as the other six have gone dry.
