David Hockney’s ‘Mount Fuji and Flowers’, 1972
After his breakup with Peter Schlesinger in the summer of 1971, David Hockney travelled to Japan with his friend Mark Lancaster. ​ Working from a postcard of majestic Mount Fuji and a photograph he found in a Japanese flower arranging manual, he created this exquisite piece. ​ ​The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, who acquired the original painting in 1972, produced this now rare, offset lithographic poster. David Hockney’s ‘Pool and Steps’, 1964
After moving from the UK to sunny California in the 1960s, Hockney created a number of iconic swimming pool paintings. Awash with translucent blues, delicate pinks and greens, the series depicted an idyllic world of leisure and bright light totally removed from the greyness of the Britain he had left behind. ‘Pool and Steps’ was painted in 1964. We’re thrilled to offer a poster depicting it from Denmark’s Louisiana Museum of Modern Art exhibition in 1971. Find out more:
‘Welcome’, 1983, rare signed print by Howard Hodgkin
In 1983, Hodgkin was invited by Andy Warhol to contribute to the official art portfolio of the Olympic Winter Games in Sarajevo. He produced this wonderful piece and titled it ‘Welcome’. Working in partnership with Petersberg Press, we’re thrilled to present this print of Hodgkin’s work which he has personally signed. A collector’s piece, it is one of 45 editions ever to be made. A Closer Grand Canyon, 1998, David Hockney
Did you know? Hockney’s ‘A Closer Grand Canyon’, 1998, which depicts Arizona’s famous red rock formations, is composed of 60 small canvases assembled into one giant image. The original is over seven metres wide. David Hockney’s ‘Iris With Evian Bottle’, 1998
This historic exhibition poster was originally published by Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark for the major group show ‘The Flower as a Picture’ in 2004/05. The celebrated exhibition explored the significance of floral subjects in modern art, and travelled from Louisiana to Fondation Beyeler and Riehen/Basel.
