Tuesday Time Tunnel: Back to the '80s

In this week's Tuesday Time Tunnel, we had back thirty four years to 1981 on Castle Meadow with this shot from contributor "Return2LayerRoad". Seen whilst working the 504 to Costessey is LFL57, which was delivered to new to Eastern Counties in 1963. The shot to the right was taken in 1981, around two years before the last Lodekka was withdrawn from standard daily service at Eastern Counties. A small handful were retained until the mid-1980s for school and contract work. 557BNG was later…

All change at Anglianbus and Konectbus

The current buses on the 8 will be replaced and moved onto the 2, catalyzing a timeline of other cascades. A lot is to happen over the next few months at local Go-Ahead owned operators Anglianbus and Konectbus all of which, for ease of information, is summed up below. Everything is very much taking place in a cascading process, so I have tried to list things chronologically where possible. Five brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro400s are to be delivered to Konectbus for Konectexpress service…

Non-PCV Updates

Non-PCV DRE444M at its current home on the outskirts of the city Spotted today, thanks to a tip off from Sam Larke, was DRE444M. The Neoplan Starliner has been about in the area for many years, but has not been sighted for a considerably long time after it used to be stored at the back of the industrial estate by the Norfolk Showground. The coach itself is owned by local entrepreneur Graham Dacre, who is known for his many ventures across Norwich. Note the appropriate cherished registration…

EATM 50th Anniversary Special

VR385 operating the park and ride at Ashburnham Way Today was the East Anglia Transport Museum's 50th anniversary of being open to the public as a museum site, where a commemorative event was held to celebrate. Rather sadly, attendance numbers were low both in terms of visitors and visiting vehicles. I'm sure the persistent heavy rain scared off most people, either that or the British Grand Prix took priority. During my stay, just six visiting vehicles were around with the rest of the…

Smart new arrival at Chenery Travel

Chenery's latest addition in Ipswich at the weekend (Bryan Dickson) Bryan Dickson provides the latest update from local coach operator Chenery Travel. New in the fleet is Neoplan Tourliner N999RWC, which began life as MT61HVE with Ellisons. It appears that it's main use is on Shearings feeder work, which Bryan Dickson photographed the coach completing at Ipswich Rail Station on Saturday 27th June. Chenery Travel, based in Dickleburgh near Diss, previously operated PK62VUT, PK62VUU and…

Half year review

Lynx began trading in January, and have grown exponentially since Yesterday saw us blissfully cross the half way mark of 2015 as we enjoyed (or melted) the hottest day of the year so far. As there's been a quite a lot of happenings since the start of the year, it seems only fitting that we take a quick look over the principal goings on. In January, Norfolk's newest operator hit the road. Coastal Red, who trade as Lynx, is managed by Andrew Warnes and Julian Patterson - who are known for…

"Herucles" at the Norfolk Show coach park on Wednesday 1st July It's time for the first Odds and Ends of July, and another in depth look at the latest little bits and bobs. On Wendesday, a pair of Sanders tri-axle East Lancs Nordic bodied Volvo B9TLs were used on private hires to the Royal Norfolk Show. A few rare workings have been noted this week. Everything seemed to behave itself on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday 1st July, the hottest of the year so far, a number of buses konked out…

Oddball Wednesday: Optare Rapta

Promotional impression of the Rapta (Optare Plc) This week's Oddball Wednesday follows on from the post of the same theme published exactly two weeks ago today - I would advise you read that one first if you have not already, click here. Launched in 2008 alongside the Optare Solo+ was the Optare Rapta integral double decker. It held what was then planned as a new family look for Optare. Exhibited at the Euro Bus Expo, it was only ever built as a mock up with black tinted windows and no…

NNR Vintage Vehicle Weekend Special

Citybus 2526 bathing in the sun at the Holt NNR station. Today was day one of the North Norfolk Railway's annual vintage vehicle weekend. The event clashes this year with the fiftieth anniversary event at the East Anglia Transport Museum, so I decided to attend the NNR event today to celebrate the EATM's landmark tomorrow. All in all a nice little rally. Small but sweet, the event is held on an empty patch of grass beside the Norfolk Norfolk Railway station in Holt. From what I counted…
