’Harpun mittens’ are a pair of mittens to match the hat ’Harpun’. They are worked in a beautiful twisted stitch pattern reminding one of the tips of old harpoons and hunting gear. The pattern is a slip stitch pattern, where some stitches are slipped for several rounds before they are twisted.
Recently, I discovered a little bag of Ashford Corriedale top in a soft mauve-purple at the bottom of a trunk. Using a home-made spindle and a shoebox kate, I spun it into a 2-ply worsted weight, a yarn that at normal gauge knits up to 5 stitches per inch. It was closer to double knitting weight than aran.
