Josiah George Jennings (1810–1882)
George Jennings was an English sanitary engineer and plumber who invented the first public flush toilets. Josiah George Jennings was born on 10 November 1810 in Eling, at the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire. He was the eldest of seven children of Jonas Joseph Jennings and Mary Dimmock. The whole of the decorative portion of this Mansion is in Terra Cotta, manufactured by George Jennings, including Ornamental Quions, with Conventional Foliage designed by J K Colling, Esq., the large projecting Roof Cornices, the enriched Columns of Bay Windows, the Chimney Stacks, the Balustrading, the Cornices of Offices, &c., &c., details of which are shewn to scale at pages 9 and 10.
