The Gokstad Viking ship.  Little known fact: Norse ships began to use iron rivets beginning of 3rd cent AD (before they lashed planks together).  Shipbuilders also put a tarred string of wool in the overlap between planks for a water tight seal, then the rivets went into place.  Norsemen did not have saws...axes were the primary tool of choice.

Viking Ship, Oslo. Great craftmanship... The vikingboats were the really fast race boats of the past! And they could even cross against the wind. We have many fine replicas under sail and it is sometimes possible to go for a trip. Roskilde and the one in Oslo in Norge are the best museums to go, If you are into vikingships and their history.
