Each year we modify the awards to suit the Joomla community and 2012 is no different. This year there are three new Joomla Open Source Creative and Artistic Recognition Awards. the Services Award is very appropriate this year as Joomla has matured and a network of services have grown to match an increased demand. Similarly, web sites must increasingly be mobile and the Web Site awards now include the Mobile category.

J and Beyond, an International Joomla! Conference, is back for the third year.

There has been many efforts going lately to encourage people to contribute to the Joomla! project in various ways. From the Joomla! Forward initiative and the alltogetherasawhole.org website, to lots of blog posts both on the joomla.org site and elsewhere. Jeremy Wilken of Gnomeoftherun.com is one person with a strong opinion in this matter. I met up with him during the J and Beyond conference to hear what he had to say about contributing to the Joomla! project.

community involvement - what can you do to contribute?

In this video, Jack Bremer does his yearly walk-through of the J and Beyond venue in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands. The hotel itself is HUGE and we only managed to cover the actual conference area. I actually had to use a map to find my room when I arrived at the hotel. Now, sit back and let Jack take you on a run through the venue.

The yearly Joomla conference J and Beyond is just weeks away. As I have since the start in 2010, I’ll be there to meet up with Joomla enthusiasts from all over the world. J and Beyond, or JAB among friends, has been a great opportunity for me to get to know people in the community. That’s the most valuable factor for me when going to JAB. Obviously, I always learn new stuff about Joomla, too. However, the social aspect of the event is really where J and Beyond shines. This year, the event…

The keynote at the J and Beyond 2010 conference on Monday morning was done by Ryan Ozimek. In the keynote he talked about the role of the OSM (Open Source Matters), board in the Joomla! project. He emphasized that the role of OSM should be to support the community. After the keynote I had a short chat with Ryan. The result can be seen in this video
