The Sami people are the Arctic indigenous people inhabiting Sápmi, which today encompasses parts of far northern Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Kola Peninsula of Russia, and the border area between south and middle Sweden and Norway. Photographer Erika Larsen has lived in one of their tribes for several years and that’s what she has to show you about everyday life of these people.

Sami . Reindeer Calve -- or young -- whose antlers were taken for other use. Those are not "Costumes", the Sami are around Hunting, and need to be SEEN in bright colors. It's the coldest part of Scandinavia, and they love their reindeer, & don't want to waste any of them so clothing is made the old ways -- it keeps them warmer than warm in Coldest part of their World!! (Living in a tent often!!)

Sápmi, the land of the Sami .. the area the Sami call their land Sápmi and it is quite a large area; about the size of Sweden, but spread out over Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russian Kola Peninsula. The Sami inhabited the region long before the concept of national borders existed. Most experts agree that the Sami culture can be traced back to around 2000 to 2500 years.
