Fishing Boats On The Beach 1888. Van Gogh’s joyful visit to the fishing village of Sainte-Maries. Two different kinds of vision united in one work: nature seen as light and airy in countless tones of high-keyed color, then, man's objects the boats, in flat airless tones of primary color, along the beach beside one another, overlap with crossing masts, a network of spots and colored lines, the irregular patterns of the seashore, the waves and the vast currents of the shapeless clouds.
