Idlewild Blooms | Emily Fontes on Instagram: "My best tips for newbies… 💗 Buy dahlia varieties that make you happy even if they aren’t popular. Some of my favorites are inexpensive. 💗 Get a variety of sizes and forms. This gives you good texture in bouquets. 💗 It’s okay to plant them close (12 inches is what I do) as long as you cut them a lot! 💗 Fertilize them regularly with nitrogen balanced fertilizer when they are young. This makes for big happy plants. You can lay off the fertilizer once they are blooming. 💗 Give them lots of support so they don’t fall over. I use the corral method because it works well for long rows with lots of plants. 💗 Attend your local dahlia society meetings and make some friends with people who have grown them for years. You’ll learn lots! 💗 Don’t take i Dahlia Planting Combinations, Dahlia In Garden, Dahlia Staking Ideas, Planting Dahlia Bulbs, Dahlia Flower Bed, Dahlia Support, Dahlia Support Ideas, Staking Dahlias, Dahlia Garden Layout
