Remarkable cutting and an impressive design distinguish this American Brilliant Period cut glass bowl by T.G. Hawkes & Company. Cut in the exceptional Chrysanthemum pattern, the decorative bowl absolutely glows with brilliant light. The top rim is cut into graceful arches edged in scallops, while the bowl’s body features an exquisite pattern of hobstars and fans surmounting polished petals of fine diamonds that come together at the base. This elegant bowl is an exquisite example of American Brilliant Period cut glass, highly regarded for its clarity and brilliance. This pattern dates to circa 1890, before Hawkes started to sign their pieces. It is one of the two patterns that made Hawkes (and by default all American cut glass makers) famous as this and their Grecian patten won the gold prize at the 1887 World’s Fair in Paris. Masters of American Brilliant Period cut glass, T.G. Hawkes & Company produced glassware for some of the nation’s greatest families, including the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, and even the White House.
