Our original La Mere de la Perle necklace is a perennial customer favorite so we decided to re-create it using hand-dyed pearls in verdant shades of pistachio, sage, and fern. The vintage pearl buttons were hand-carved from Mississippi River mussel shells by the American Pearl Button Company of Washington which operated between 1908 and 1964. Wear a piece of history! 100 years ago, J.R. Boepple from Muscatine, Iowa discovered the "freshwater pearls" clams in the Mississippi River. These shells were sorted and graded by an then, cut, dyed and formed into round blanks. These buttons were lost in a warehouse for many decades and were recently rediscovered and turned into this beautiful piece of jewelry.
