Last year I began reading the blog, Folklore Fashion, it was brim full of breathtaking photography of Scandinavian folk costumes antiques and reproductions. Having never really studied much about this type of costume - I was quite intrigued. The Bunad A bunad is a traditional Norwegian costume, typically of rural origin. Bunads are local to Norway's traditional districts, and the result both of cultural evolution and organized efforts to discover and modernize older designs. The designs are typically elaborate, with embroidery, scarves, shawls and hand-made silver or gold jewellery. The traditional Bunad (the traditional dress of Norway) for the women includes a skirt worn with a highly embroidered blouse, over which is worn a much decorated vest or bodice of silk damask or calamanco. Some women also use a shawl over one shoulder. Similarly, the Norwegian men wear a knicker-length or full-length pants of one color in their Bunad. They also wear a plain jacket, made in the same material as their trousers. The buttons on the man’s vest, coat and pants are stamped pewter
