Andrea del Sarto | Portrait of a Young Man | NG690
Portrait of a Young Man, 1517-18. Andrea del Sarto (1486-1530.) National Gallery, London. | According to the National Gallery, it was once thought that the sitter was a Florentine sculptor, and that the object in his hands was a block of stone, although it resembles a book. Recently he has been identified as a patron of Sarti's whose family owned a brickworks, leading some to suggest that the book may actually be a brick. Hmmm... not sure.
