Newman's Artist's Paint Box


A middle of the 19th century mahogany brass bound artist's paint box by Newman's.

This box is a very good example, with 14 block paints each impressed with "Newman's" and the colour on one side and a crown with 5 feather plumage on the other.

The interior of the box has several ceramic paint pots and a glass water dish.

The base of the box has a slim drawer with a ring handle and a locking pin.

The drawer holds four more ceramic dishes

Framed 'Queen Mary' Print   A 20th century framed print of the ocean liner 'The Queen Mary'.   The print shows a side on cross section plan of the ship so the interior can be viewed.   The sectioned plan has a chart numbering 1-203 naming the different areas of the ship.   The print has the signature of the artist in the bottom right hand corner, G.H.Avis.   The print shows the original creases from being folded and has some minor marks.   (Circa 1936)

Impressive set of Four Georgian Essex Hunt Prints
Set of four large late Georgian prints of the Essex Hunt in ebonised and gilt edged frames.


The prints titled " The Essex Hunt" published by D Wolstenholme, 22 Chads Row Grays Inn Road, May 1 1831 LONDON.

The prints have been hand coloured and they were engraved by D Wolstenholme. The prints are very good quality and in good condition.

The frames have the odd chip or nick to the edges or gilt.

The glass panels have " Pub March 25 1808 by HINTON 44 Well st"  written along the lower edge.

The lady is sitting in an arm chair wearing a bonnet, a ruff, a shawl over her shoulder and with a rural scene behind her and to her right.  Both portraits are held in what seems to be their original gilt wood frames.

A middle of the 19th century pottery lid of 'The Exhibition of Art and Industry of all Nations".  The lids were made by T J & J Mayer for Crosse & Blackwell's potted meats.  The Mayers of Dale Hall Pottery, Longport, Burslem were a Staffordshire family.  The lid shows the Grand Exhibition Hall 'Crystal Palace' with people in the grounds around it.
