My guidebook told me that it was impossible for a photograph to really show the scale of the Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga, South Africa. They were right, but this picture tells some of the story at least. One of the largest canyons on earth and easily reachable from Johannesburg, it features many viewpoints along the so-called Panorama Route. This is probably the best - looking towards the rock formation known as the "Three Rondavels" because of its similarity to traditional African houses
