When we used the fabrics (which aren’t fabric but actually plastic) my soil grew more compacted each year. Leaf litter and organic matter couldn’t accumulate throughout the year like it normally would, feeding the soil life and providing organic mulch to feed microbes, so when I’d remove the fabric in fall the soil underneath would be hard and cracking.
