Smooth muscle tissue -- Smooth muscle tissue reduces or enlarges involuntarily the diameter of vessels they surround, such as the intestines. One of its secondary functions is to help moving fluids through the body.
This photo displays cardiac muscle tissue. This tissue type is striated, branched, and has 1-2 nuclei. Cardiac muscle tissue can be recognized by intercalated disks (dark thickened part). Cardiac muscle cells are bigger than smooth muscle cells and smaller than skeletal muscle cells. They control involuntary movement (the heart).
Hot stone massage therapy melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness and increases circulation and metabolism. Each 1 ½ -hour hot stone massage therapy session promotes deeper muscle relaxation through the placement of smooth, water-heated stones at key points on the body.
Muscle tissue is elongated, stimulated to contract, and vascular (needs a lot of blood supply for energy). There are three types as depicted in the image: skeletal - striated, cylindrical, multi-nucleiated, and the biggest cell of the three types. Cardiac - striated, branched, 1-2 nuclei, has intercalated discs, and are the second biggest. Intercalated discs have desmosomes and gap junctions for molecule and liquid transport. Smooth - nonstriated, spindle shaped, 1 nuclei, and are the…
