Architect Julian Francis Abele (April 30, 1881 - April 23, 1950) was the first African American graduate of UPenn's School of Fine Arts. After postgraduate study in Europe he became the chief designer for Horace Trumbauer. His buildings include Harvard's Widener Library, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and much of the Duke University campus including the chapel and Cameron Indoor Stadium. Because of the Jim Crow laws of the time it's likely he never saw the Duke buildings. #TodayInBlackHistory
