I was encouraged to draw from a very early age. My only training has been a two year course in three dimensional design, where I actually discovered my strengths lay in figurative and life drawing. I've casually doodled and scribbled away for the past twenty years or so, but now I'm taking things more seriously and rediscovering a passion to draw and paint my favourite animals, including hares, Herdwick sheep and British farm animals and wildlife.

It's been a while since I posted anything from my sketchbook! Here is one of my favorite animals and favorite things to draw, the dog. This particular breed of dog is a basset hound... it was interesting not just to study and draw their big floppy ears and wrinkly folds in their skin, but to also learn about their unique personalities. This is only my first attempt but I'm hoping to use them in an illustration, and possibly make this into a series with other breeds as well.
