About Chateau Listeur... the name

I have been making home brewed beer since 1975 and started making hard apple cider and berry wines in 1980. After moving to Alaska it was very exciting to see all of the berries that grow very well up here. Growing my own berries in Alaska was a no-brainer. In Alaska I continued with my hobby making wine from produce that I bought. My goal is to make wine out of the fruits and berries that I grow myself. I did plant a raspberry bed in my front yard in Anchorage and it was very productive as…

For summer-fruiting brambles, primocanes are 1-year-old vegetative canes, and 2-year-old canes called floricanes produce the fruit. Canes that produce fruit die after the fruit matures and will need to be pruned. Various brambles are pruned differently, and some need to be tipped…

Bountiful Raspberries - Off The Grid News

Raspberries are a versatile, small fruit that can be used fresh, baked in pies and pastries, and canned for winter use as jams and preserves. Completing the Geneva Double-Curtain Trellis System

A number of family and friends helped us construct the trellis systems needed for our two-year-old vines. More robust varieties require a stronger trellis system. The one we chose to go with is called Geneva Double-Curtain, which gives vigorous vines plenty of room to grow and lots of sun exposure. The vines we are putting on these trellises are the Sabrevois, LaCrescent, Prairie Star, Marquette, Somerset Seedless (a table grape) and next year we will add the King of the North. The…
