~Garden Lights~
This is a thrifty little project that is so easy! My friend {and creative muse} D'Ann saw these little garden lights at a local antique store. We knew we could make them for next to nothing! D'Ann's hub is a contractor, so he takes lots of old light fixtures featuring these little jewels out of homes as he remodels. Between the ones we could get from him and some purchased at Goodwill and other thrift stores, we had quite a variety to work with! So here is what you need: globes from old…

Garden Light
Here are some "Make It Yourself" ideas I created and styled for Country Gardens magazine in the Summer 2009 issue. I had a great time shooting this story in VT at Muddy Creek Farm with Jim Westphalen. I discovered clam baskets make a great hanging chandelier. Hang with clothesline from a tree, beams or a pergola over your table. Pad the bottom with moss and stand pillar candles inside. Love Buckets! use them to make pretty floating flowerscapes. Add a floating candle. Place it where your…

How to make Raised Serving Platters using Recycled Items
I got this awesome idea from Gina over at Desperately Seeking Gina. She made this beautiful raised serving platter using a recycled fan globe. How genius is that? Seeing as I have no raised serving dishes I knew this was something I wanted to make. My only problem was I had no fan globes to use. I planned on just buying a few large glass cups and using them. But guess what?! By the grace of God I saw a fan sitting outside near the trash just a few houses down from me. Luck was definitely on…

Before & After: A Nature Lover’s Nook
The instant I spotted the front porch of my Austin apartment, I knew I wanted to live here. I love Texas, but I miss my home state of Louisiana, and the front porch of this duplex evoked a bit of a Louisiana architecture-feel. But it needed some work to get it to be the perfect place for sitting out every morning and evening with a friend and iced tea.
