We are updating our home theatre experience. Parker (Pyne), the Asus eeebox EB1501P using Ubuntu 12.04 and xbmc will be powering a larger screen, which is currently 61cm diagonally. Challenges still remain regarding connecting a 5.1 surround system, telecoil loop, and home automation, designed to keep us informed of room temperatures and other sensor data, and allow us to change parameters through the internet.
(Superintendent) Battle and (Inspector) Japp are both HTC Gratia smart phones in Forest Green, running Android 2.2 Froyo (Frozen Yoghurt). We keep them in their own yellow and green canvas bags. In the Mazda, the bluetooth hands free system allows one to operate the phone without having to remove one's hands from the wheel. (These devices have now been retired)
Arthur (Hastings) hangs about the Physical Computing Workshop performing administrative, educational and technical duties. He currently is fitted with a dual boot Windows 7 Home Premium / Ubuntu 11.10 operating system. There is now discussion to upgrade the machine to a pure Ubuntu 12.04 LTS workstation. This will probably be the last of the Acer machines, as we are more satisfied with computers from Asus.
Jane (Marple) is an Asus U31 13" laptop originally selected because of her attributes making her a portable companion on international and other journeys. She runs Windows 7. At home she is normally found in the weaving studio, most often attached to a 24" screen. (This device has now changed user, but is in daily use.)
Parker (Pyne) is our media player, currently attached to a 24" Acer screen. An Asus EeeBox EB1501P netbox, residing in the living room, he runs Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, which is how he ended up with his name. His current attachment is only temporary, as he is looking forward to a more lasting relationship with a larger screen. He is also being prepared for additional duties in the home automation field.
