CASTLES OF SPAIN - Albanchez Castle, Jaén. The construction is attributed to the Muslim rebel Ibn Al Saliya, lord of Sumuntan. It dates from the 9th century, its purpose was to protect the farmers who lived at the foot of the hill. In 1231, Albanchez was conquered by the knights of the Order of Santiago who belonged to Uclés de Cuenca Monastery.
