It was presented to George III by Richard, Earl of Mornington, Governor General of India, in 1800. Supposedly taken from the bedroom of Tipu Sultan. The Royal Collection.

Leather bracers, 1360s, Tartu, Estonia. Iron details had all but rusted away completely. Leather is most likely horse leather cuir bouilli. Metal details were riveted to the leather base - steel strips alternately with rows of rivets also buckles. Likely waxed or greased for weatherproofing. Possibly made locally or in Germany. In Tallinn, leather arm guards are mentioned among defense equipment distributed to males around 1360. The first discovery of medieval leather arm guards in Europe.

This style of bracer is based on an earlier example found in York dated to the late 14th century.

1475-1525AD, Tudor. Archer's bracer, cuir bouilli (boiled), stamped with crowned Tudor rose, oak leaves, acorns 'ihc helpe' ('Jesus help'). Bracers were also made of ivory or horn but were usually made of leather. Bracers are fastened around the forearm by a buckle at the end of Y-shaped leather straps rivetted to the bracer. The original rivet holes can be seen on this example. Decoration on this bracer was originally gilded coloured. Bracers from the Mary Rose have a similar decoration.
