Video Editing - Camera: I run the Sony HDR-XR520E, normally with the only wide lense available for this model. My next camera shall have manual controls and I have ambitions of going SLR soon. I don't look forward to that move as I know nothing about shooting with an SLR. Also I fear that the cost of glass will pull me under :-)
After shooting I unload the AVCHD to my laptop. From there I convert my AVCHD to High Quality AVI with the Cineform NeoScene software. The AVCHD is then moved to my NAS for permanent storage while I edit in Sony Vegas Pro using the AVI files. The video is mostly coded to MP4 using Sony AVC, 1920x1080, 10 000 000bps. The MP4 final file is then uploaded to my NAS and www.vimeo.com/rakkenes. Then it is shared to all my Google+ friends, resulting in it being seen by 5 persons. Viral Stuff!
This is a very good product for any video amateur. Smooth wheel, buttons can be customized to any possible shortcut, pre-sets available for a huge range of products and most important - it costs under 90 USD. You don't know it yet but you want this one! I only use the jog knob and 5 of the buttons (Mark event left and right, split cut, delete marked cut and play movie). My editing speed went straight through the roof after starting using it...
Video Editing - Effects: I recently took some NewBlue products into use. I use Motion Effects, Motion Blends and NewBlueFX Titler Pro. Not much experience with the products yet as video editing time is very limited these days.
