Nadine Ijewere always knew she would wear a Vivienne Westwood dress when she married her partner James Gilbert – it was simply a question of finding the perfect one.
Six weeks before the wedding, she got to work designing her dress at the Rixo atelier in London. Inspired by a peach 1940s gown of her mother’s, she crafted a dress with a smocked bodice and organza layers. To modernise the design, she made it backless, and on a whim in her fitting, she cut a deep V-neck into it herself with scissors.

Rita popped the question while the pair were on vacation in Palm Springs in the summer of 2022, and they planned an impromptu wedding to be held in Los Angeles a few weeks later, on August 4. “It wasn’t in London or in France like everyone reported,” Taika clarifies. “It was in L.A. with a small group of friends.”
