Mandevilla — My favorite plant, very affordable at Home Depot every spring in either pink, white or red flowers. Blooms ALL spring & summer! Vine plant, comes with a small trellis but will grow and climb past that (usually mine grow an extra 6 feet over the summer and I coax them around my deck railings). Very hardy in my experience. Short of forgetting to water it, it does great on my apartment deck in a larger pot, in partial sun. The flowers are absolutely gorgeous!
Texas silverbush This evergreen Texas native has a densely-branched, compact form with silver stems and tiny silver leaves. This clone blooms repeatedly during the summer and fall with deep purple flowers. Plant in full sun and reflected heat, and provide excellent drainage. This species is very susceptible to rotting out.
Purple Tower Crape Myrtle - Sporting vibrant purple flowers in the summer months, this lovely small tree will draw the eye of any passer by. Unique, slightly columnar habit is perfect for that narrower spot in the garden where summer color is desired. Enjoys a full sun position, and once established is quite drought tolerant.
