HMS Hood, 1926. The largest battlecruiser ever built, she famously confirmed the fundamental flaw in the concept when she came up against the modern German battleship Bismarck in May 1941, being fatally vulnerable to heavy calibre plunging fire. There were only 3 survivors.

A fine view showing the enormous forecastle and the massive 16" gun turrets

HMS Hood in 1924 moored in Australia. Destroyed by the German Battleship Bismark however some historians claim that the fatal shot was actually delivered from the Prinz Eugene which was the light cruiser which accompanied the Bismark during its' fateful voyage.
