Girolamo Giuseffi, St. Louis, MO, ca. 1906. Silk and silk velvet. Indianapolis Museum of Art: "The appliquéd and cutout stylized flowers—either peonies or plum blossoms—are drawn in an Art Nouveau style, which was prevalent from 1890 to 1914. The dramatic sleeve silhouette along with the great amount of ruching and hand pin tucking throughout the bodice and skirt make this a very expensive garment, perhaps part of a trousseau."

This evening dress made between 1908-1910 was worn by Maud Messel. It is made of silver gilt lame, covered with light green silk chiffon, embroidered with rosettes in pearls and glass. The dress has a long skirt with a train. The dress is worn with a green silk chiffon overdress, green silk chiffon scarves and silver braid. The design is aesthetic and medieval inspired. Its dramatic style indicates that it might have been worn as fancy dress.
