Formerly in the collection of Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III, this historic jewel consists of 250 carats worth of diamonds. Created in 1855, the Vanderbilt Rose’s original owner was the niece of Napoleon Bonaparte, Princess Mathilde Bonaparte. After her death in 1904, the Vanderbilt Rose was auctioned off and sold by Cartier to Cornelius Vanderbilt III.
